FAQ

FAQS
Q I want to connect to my company's network from home, should I take some security precautions?
A Yes. Information is a key asset you should protect, whether it is company secrets or your personal data. Your company probably has a policy regarding security when you are telecommuting or communicating while on the road. Check with your network administrator to determine your company's requirements. If you're connecting to the office via the Internet, you should use a firewall with Virtual Private Networking (VPN) capabilities to protect you and your company. While the VPN solutions used by many companies, specifically those using the IPSEC protocol, will work with B2X network, troubleshooting and support are not offered. For assistance on setting up or troubleshooting a VPN, please contact your network administrator or the vendor of the particular software that you are using.

Completion of Full Redundant BackBone Ring. - 9/30/2003
B2X Online, Inc. has completed a fully redundant ring and spoke backbone topology of the Roanoke area.

Incorporating a full "Ring and Spoke" backbone to each mountain top, tower and repeater site has made us almost bullet proof. The concept of "Ring and Spoke" implies the idea of a wagon wheel, a ring on the outside and the spokes holding it together. With that picture in mind, B2X has created a "Ring" to each one of it's transmitters giving us at least 2 paths to each of the sites. The "Spoke" side gives us multiple paths back to the main router.

What does this mean to the end user? It means that it will take 2 to 3 catastrophic failures at once before their connection will fail. Our backbone is being supervised by software that watches the paths and connections and constantly ensures the fastest path to the Internet. If part of our backbone has a failure then it will sense the failure and re-route traffic another direction. This re-routing will take place within seconds.

For B2X this means we perform upgrades on the fly without interrupting service. We can plan system improvements and system repairs. Overall it will help us (B2X) help you (the customer).
